San Francisco 49ers unveil new license plate to benefit state parks
San Francisco 49ers fans might be able to buy new license plates that could benefit places like the team’s old home at Candlestick Point.
The San Francisco 49ers Foundation this week announced plans with the California DMV to create specialty license plates that could generate money for state parks, which could include the team’s former home near the bay and Hunter’s Point.
The plates are expected to feature the 49ers’ logo and phrase “Faithful to State Parks,” paying homage to their recent catch phrase, “Faithful to the Bay.” Money from the sales will benefit the team’s foundation and California Natural Resources agency, which aims to protect the state’s natural lands for future generations.
However, for the state to finalize production of the plates, 7,500 must be ordered. They will cost $50 at outset and $40 annually to renew. They are only eligible for California vehicles. The Los Angeles Rams started a similar program to benefit parks with Rams-themed license plates in February.
