49ers pre-game: Both teams without talented tackles; Vance McDonald sits for SF
Both teams today will operate without an offensive tackle drafted in the first round in 2010. Washington’s left tackle, Trent Williams, is inactive with an MCL sprain. That sends rookie Morgan Moses into the lineup to face Aldon Smith, who promises to see plenty of action at right outside linebacker.
For the 49ers, Anthony Davis is out with a concussion suffered at the end of last week’s game against the Giants. Jonathan Martin will make his sixth start of the season at right tackle .
One surprise on the 49ers’ inactive list: Vance McDonald will not play today after suffering a hip injury during practice this week. McDonald has seen minimal action in the passing game this season but has become a better run blocker and was used as such in recent weeks.
Vernon Davis and Derek Carrier are the 49ers’ only active tight ends, although longsnapper Kyle Nelson is capable of playing the position. Garrett Celek (PUP) returned to practice this week but is not on the 53-man roster.
Meanwhile, Perrish Cox will continue to start at cornerback fro Tramaine Brock (hamstring) and also will fill in as punt returner for Bruce Ellington (ankle).
