San Francisco 49ers

Report Card: Gore goes out with a bang

▪ Offense: For the first time all season, the 49ers used their ground game to put away an opponent in the second half. If this was Frank Gore’s last game with the 49ers, he went out in style with 144 rushing yards and 17 carries in the second half. Grade: B

▪ Defense: The team’s makeshift secondary gave up 316 passing yards and two touchdowns to Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley. But they intercepted him three times and held the Cardinals to 17 points. Grade: B+

▪ Special teams: Trindon Holliday added a small spark on kick returns. Phil Dawson is good from 53 yards. The veteran went 16 for 18 at Levi’s Stadium this season. Grade: B

▪ Overall: Jim Harbaugh isn’t the only prominent 49er who will be elsewhere next year. From Gore to Justin Smith to Mike Iupati, the team could be in for big changes in 2015. The 49ers must figure out how to retain some of the toughness that made them a winner in previous seasons. Grade: C
