Scratch Lane Kiffin from the list of potential offensive coordinators for the 49ers. The former Raiders head coach is remaining with the University of Alabama, the school announced Saturday.
“We’ve very pleased and happy that Lane is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us,” Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “He’s done a fabulous job and is one of the finest offensive coaches in the country.”
Last week ESPN called Kiffin, who was fired with great relish by former Raiders owner Al Davis after four games in 2008, “a frontrunner” for the 49ers‘ job. It appears the 49ers will make a push to land Rob Chudzinski, whose contract with the Indianapolis Colts runs out Monday. Mike Shanahan and Geep Chryst are other potential candidates.
Chryst was the 49ers’ quarterbacks coach the last four years and has a good relationship with quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The Chicago Bears showed interest in Chryst before hiring Adam Gase to run their offense. The Raiders also are interested in Chryst.
