Welcome back, Tom Gamble.
The 49ers on Thursday announced they had hired Gamble, a longtime fixture in their personnel department, as senior personnel executive. Gamble spent the past two seasons in Philadelphia but was abruptly dismissed last month when the Eagles reshuffled their front office.
“Tom is one of the most experienced, knowledgeable and respected personnel men in the business,” general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “He played an instrumental role in our personnel department from 2005-2012 and is well versed in our system, having played a role in its development. This familiarity, along with his many strengths, will be tremendous assets as we prepare for free agency and the draft. It is great to have Tom back with the 49ers.”
Gamble’s previous tenure with the team included overseeing both college and pro scouting. He and Baalke were observed talking, presumably about Gamble rejoining the 49ers, at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., earlier this month.
