Locals watch: Sam Dommer and U.S. men’s rowing eights finish fourth in Rio

What athletes with Sacramento-area connections are up to at the Summer Olympics:

DeMarcus Cousins, Kings, basketball: The U.S. men’s team finishes group play Sunday against France (10:45 a.m., NBCSN). The quarterfinals are Wednesday, semifinals Friday, gold medal game Aug. 21.

Alex Obert, Loomis, water polo: The U.S. men play Italy Sunday (11:30 a.m.) on the final day of group play. Friday’s 8-5 loss to Montenegro eliminated the team from medal contention.

Sam Dommer, Folsom, rowing: Dommer and the men’s eights finished fourth in 5:35.23. Britain won the gold in 5:29.63, followed by Germany (5:30.96) and Netherlands (5:31.59).

Cale Simmons, Rocklin, pole vault: Simmons finished 28th and was eliminated in qualifying Saturday.
