Bees hold River Cats in check at plate, earn first win

Salt Lake scored one run in the second inning and one in the third and made them hold up for a 2-0 win over the River Cats at Raley Field on Friday night, according to the River Cats’ website.

Alfredo Marte doubled off Braulio Lara in the second inning and later scored on a ground out. Carlos Perez homered in the third inning. Andrew Heaney earned the win, striking out eight in seven innings as Salt Lake improved to 1-1.

Andrew Susac, Ronny Cedeno and Carlos Triunfel had the only hits – all singles – for the River Cats.

The series resumes at 7:05 tonight when right-hander Nick Tropeano is expected to take the mound for the Bees against left-hander Ty Blach.
