River Cats lose despite inside-the-park home run

Sacramento’s Darren Ford hit a two-run, inside-the-park homer, but the River Cats fell to the host Albuquerque Isotopes 6-4.

The Cats threatened in the ninth but failed to score. Carlos Triunfel led off with a single, and Trevor Brown followed with a double as Triunfel stopped at third. But pinch hitter Jarrett Parker and Brett Jackson struck out, and pinch hitter John Bowker (Rio Americano High School) popped out to shortstop.

The River Cats scored three runs in the seventh, highlighted by Ford’s homer, to cut Albuquerque’s lead to 5-4. The Isotopes added a run in the eighth on a fielder’s choice.

Brandon Hunley hit a two-run homer and Sacramento State outhit Grand Canyon 13-10, but the Hornets were held scoreless after the second inning and lost their regular-season finale 6-3 at John Smith Field, Sac State reported.
