River Cats hold virtual Opening Day festivities to start 20th season in Sacramento
The start of the Minor League Baseball season has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis, but that won’t stop the defending Pacific Coast League and Triple-A champion River Cats from holding a virtual Opening Day on Tuesday at Sutter Health Park.
The River Cats will present a full day of festivities to mark the start of their 20th season in Sacramento, beginning with an Opening Day drive-thru from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fans can pull up to the stadium on Riverfront Drive and pick up some of their favorite ballpark fare, including $1 hot dogs, ice cream and sodas, and 24-ounce cans of Tecate for $4. Only credit cards will be accepted.
The River Cats will play the national anthem at 6:30 p.m. “to show solidarity with our city and country as we navigate these unprecedented times together.” The playing of the anthem will also be live streamed on the team’s Facebook page.
A live simulation of the River Cats’ game against the Tacoma Raniers is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. The game will be simulated using MLB The Show 20, the popular video game that features full minor league rosters for the first time this season. A link to watch the game will be posted on the team’s website as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages.
