Hicks, Affeldt help Cats rout Tacoma

Brandon Hicks had a big night at the plate and reliever Jeremy Affeldt pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab assignment as the River Cats opened the second half of their season by pounding the host Tacoma Rainiers 11-3 on Thursday.

Hicks, batting eighth, went 3 for 4 with a triple, a double and three RBIs to lead Sacramento’s 14-hit attack. Ryan Lollis and Juan Perez each had two hits and drove in three runs. Both of Perez’s hits were doubles.

Affeldt allowed no hits but hit one batter and threw a wild pitch to another. The 36-year-old left-hander struck out one and walked none.
