How Republic FC fans can help design new stadium as team awaits MLS call
Want to help design Republic FC’s downtown stadium? Here’s your chance.
The team announced a citizen architect contest Tuesday on its website. Republic FC wants fans to be involved in planning for a stadium to be built on Sacramento’s old railyard as the team and city brace for Major League Soccer’s expansion announcement later this year.
“We want our MLS stadium to reflect Republic FC’s greatest competitive advantage: our fans,” Chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle said on the team’s website. “The Citizen Architect competition reflects that spirit by providing our fans and community a new and creative opportunity to shape the overall design of their new home and the matchday experience.”
Submissions are welcome until Oct. 27. For more on the contest, visit Republic FC’s new MLS website.
MLS currently has 22 teams, but a franchise will be added in Los Angeles next year and Miami could be getting one in 2019. Sacramento is one of 12 cities hoping to be named when the league announces two expansion nods in December.
