Sacramento Republic FC could not hoist the USL Jägermeister Cup trophy Saturday night, falling 1-0 at home to Hartford Athletic.

Through regulation plus 9 minutes of extra time, Republic FC could not find the back of the net in front of a packed house at Cal Expo’s Heart Health Park.

Connecticut’s only pro soccer team, Hartford scored the match’s lone goal in the 51st minute off the foot of Samuel Careaga.

Saturday marked the finals of the United Soccer League’s Jägermeister Cup, a 38-team tournament that is in its second season. Cup matches do not count toward USL regular season standings, and Republic FC (12-8-6) earlier in the week clinched a spot in the separate USL Championship playoffs.

The team founded in 2012 hopes to win its second USL Championship title following a trophy in 2014.
