Is Prince Akeem seeking love again? ‘Coming to America’ sequel reportedly on way
It’s been nearly 30 years since Prince Akeem came to America to find his bride.
Reports are a sequel to the hit movie is on the way.
Director Jonathan Levine and television producer-writer Kenya Barris are on board for a second “Coming to America” film, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
Both reports say Eddie Murphy – who starred as the love-seeking prince of Zamunda, a fictional African nation – is involved in the project, but there’s no deal for him to star in the sequel just yet.
There are no details on the sequel’s plot.
The original movie – which also starred Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley and the late Madge Sinclair, and was directed by John Landis – debuted in theaters on June 29, 1988. It made nearly $290 million is box offices worldwide and was nominated for two Academy Awards.
