The old Southern Pacific Lines railroad depot, at 5th and I Streets, opened in 1927 and was hailed as one of the finest in the West. Today, as an Amtrak Depot, the worn facility still retains its elegance of earlier era, and is currently the focus of The Save the Depot Coalition. This view of the depot's front (south) entrance was taken April 6, 2000. (to go with story by Bill Lindelof) The Sacramento Bee / Dick Schmidt Sacramento Bee Staff Photo
