AAA: California gasoline prices edge upward with arrival of autumn
The average price of unleaded regular gasoline in California rose 6 cents a gallon from last month, according to the latest monthly, statewide AAA report.
AAA said the statewide average of $2.79 a gallon was up from $2.73 in the Sept. 13 survey.
In the Sacramento area, the average at-the-pump cost was $2.61 a gallon, up 10 cents from September.
In an unusual development, local and statewide gas prices spent much of the summer steadily decreasing. Fall typically brings more decreases, but AAA noted that some in-state refinery disruptions and OPEC’s recent announcement to curtail production have put upward pressure on at-the-pump costs.
AAA’s report said the national average price of unleaded regular was $2.26 a gallon, up 8 cents from September.
The cheapest gas in Northern California can be found in Marysville, with a current average price of $2.48 a gallon, AAA said.
