SMUD launches college scholarship and internship program

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District has launched a college scholarship and internship program.

The “Powering Futures” program will award up to 21 scholarships of up to $5,000 each to undergraduate students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

Students must live in SMUD’s service area or have a legal guardian who is a SMUD customer.

The awards will be based on academic merit and financial need, and the utility said preference will be given to students who have declared a major in science, technology, engineering or math.

The financial awards also will include the opportunity to work as a paid intern at SMUD during the summer of 2017. The deadline to apply for the scholarships is June 28. Scholarships are for the 2016-17 academic year.

For more information, see smud.org/scholarships.
