Bike accident trips Amgen pros training Saturday
A woman riding her bike on the American River bike trail in the Rancho Cordova area took a blind curve too wide Saturday and caused a pileup of top pro cyclists training for Amgen Tour of California’s Sacramento stage on Sunday.
At least one of the pros fell off his bike and crashed to the ground. Included in the group of riders was Peter Sagan, one of the sport’s major stars. He was not injured, but the chain came off his bike.
Race officials did not immediately return a request for additional information on the incident, including possible injuries.
Dozens of riders from several teams were using the trail Saturday morning to train. The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. near mile marker 15.
It is unclear if the woman, who was not identified, was injured.
