Bicyclist hit, killed by truck during Davis Double Century ride

A participant in the Davis Double Century ride was killed early Saturday when he was hit by a tractor-trailer in Solano County just outside Davis.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the cyclist, a 50-year-old Rocklin man, rode into the truck’s path just after 5 a.m. after failing to stop at a stop sign at Tremont Road and Sparling Lane. The cyclist, whose name had not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sparling Lane was shut down for 2 1/2 hours, according to the CHP. Organizers rerouted the ride, which traverses 200 miles of Yolo, Solano, Napa and Lake counties, away from the crash site.
