Kudos to: UC Davis
Accomplishment: Ranked in Top 5 for environmental sustainability by Sierra magazine
Details: Named second among the country’s universities, UC Davis is green and cool for a variety of reasons: nearly 300 undergraduate classes about sustainability; produce supply on campus is 70 percent local; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; about 80 percent of campus waste is diverted from landfills; and the majority of students use alternative transportation, especially bicycles.
Kudos to: La-Z-Boy
Accomplishment: Donated about $40,000 in furnishings and design services to Ronald McDonald House Northern California in Sacramento
Details: The furnishings, including sofas, chairs, tables, artwork and mirrors, are welcome additions to the reception room, fireplace area, stairwell and the main family dining area. They were donated by La-Z-Boy nationally and local owners of La-Z-Boy showrooms. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a place to stay for families of hospitalized children.
Kudos to: Mazda Foundation
Accomplishment: Donated $2,500 to Elk Grove Food Bank Services
Details: The money was donated to help the hungry, specifically seniors, in the southern portion of Sacramento County. The food bank has seen an increase in seniors who need help from the organization. Elk Grove Food Bank Services helps about 4,500 people a month.
