Carmichael bicyclist killed by truck

A Carmichael woman died at a hospital Wednesday, after she was struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle, authorities said.

Margaret Bengs-McReynolds, 66, was cycling on eastbound Fair Oaks Boulevard, south of Kenneth Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. As she reached the two-way left-turn lane, she was struck by a Toyota Tundra driven by Matthew Gary of Sacramento struck her, according to a CHP news release.

“Bengs-McReynolds was knocked to the ground and struck her head,” the release said.

She was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a helmet, according to CHP.

Gary was not injured. CHP officials said he was traveling less than 35 mph when the collision occurred.
