Search under way at Sugar Bowl for missing ski instructor
A search is under way for a missing ski instructor at the Sugar Bowl ski resort.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe Nordic Team are searching for Carson May, 23, who was last seen skiing at the resort Thursday afternoon, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. He did not show up for his ride home and it was discovered Friday morning that he had not returned home during the night. Sheriff’s officials said May’s belongings are still in his locker at the resort.
Sugar Bowl Resort officials said May is an instructor with the Mountain Sports Learning Center ski school and was off duty at the time he went missing.
The Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe Nordic Team are using skiers, snowmobiles and a Snocat, and report that they have narrowed their search to the back side of the resort. The Sugar Bowl ski patrol also searched the area with the assistance of a helicopter.
Resort officials said they are in touch with May’s family.
May was last seen wearing a blue Colombia jacket, bright green pants and a blue helmet.
