Prohibition topic of talk
Local author Annette Kassis will speak about the years of Prohibition in Sacramento from noon to 1:30 at Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building, 914 Capitol Mall, Sacramento. According to legend, Sacramento’s open opposition to Prohibition, which lasted from 1920 to 1933, caused it to be labeled the “wettest city in the nation.” The event takes place on the third floor in Gillis Hall. Work planned on El Dorado road
The Transportation Division of El Dorado County’s Community Development Agency plans road realignment work on Cold Springs Road between Skyview Lane and 500 feet northwest of Mount Shasta Lane. The work is expected to begin Thursday and continue through September. The construction work will require lane closures with one-way reversing traffic control through June and into July, with two separate five-day (Monday through Friday) full road closures with detours, according to the Transportation Division. Motorists should expect delays from June through the beginning of August. The improvements involve realignment of two existing curves and include roadway excavation, pavement, guardrail, fencing, drainage ditches and drainage system improvements, roadway signs and striping, officials said.

Volunteers in Neighborhood Services meets from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Community Board Room of Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive. The group is composed of Rancho Cordova residents who seek to volunteer for community events and projects.
