West Sacramento’s riverside Barn will debut this week

After nearly two years of delay, The Barn is about to be unveiled in West Sacramento. A ribbon-cutting celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Friday for the 8,000-square-foot shade structure and public gathering space in The Bridge District.

The curvilinear, shingled building is the centerpiece of a 25,000-square-foot development near Raley Field. The $6 million project, which included more than $2 million in West Sacramento city funds, was developed by Fulcrum Property of Sacramento. Developers have said it will host concerts and public events and will include a cafe and other food operations. They haven’t said what hours it will be open. Friday’s ceremony is considered a “soft opening” that will include an announcement of various events planned for the facility.

The Barn is positioned as a gateway for The Bridge District, a section of West Sacramento near the Sacramento River whose growing housing stock includes The Park Moderns from Fulcrum Property. As other developments are completed in the area, The Bridge District is expected to house more than 10,000 residents. Plans also call for the area to host a mix of retail shops and office spaces.

The Barn was initially scheduled for completion in fall 2014, with plans that it would be part of the staging grounds for West Sacramento’s inaugural TBD Fest. Mark Friedman, president of Fulcrum Property, has cited construction challenges as the prime reason for the delay.
