Bicyclist, 50, dies when hit from behind by pickup in Yuba County
A bicyclist died of injuries suffered when she was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday morning along Highway 70 in Yuba County.
The California Highway Patrol said that at about 1 a.m. Wednesday dispatchers received a call from a motorist who had hit a woman on a bicycle. An officer responded to Highway 70 at Erle Road between Olivehurst and Marysville where he found the motorist and the dead woman near a crumpled bicycle.
Officers determined that the bicyclist was riding southbound in “the right hand traffic lane” of Highway 70 when she was struck from behind by a pickup driven by a 61-year-old man from Olivehurst, according to a CHP report.
The victim, 50, was from Marysville, and authorities have not released her identity. She was not wearing a helmet, and there were no lights or reflectors on the bike, according to the CHP.
