Sacramento County Jail inmate dies in holding cell
A 27-year-old man died Monday evening in an intake holding cell at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
The death occurred just before 6 p.m., according to a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department news release. The man was arrested earlier in the day by the Rancho Cordova Police Department and booked at the Main Jail about 2:45 p.m. on misdemeanor public intoxication, sheriff’s officials said.
They said the death does not appear to be suspicious.
The man’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The Sheriff’s Department will conduct an inmate-death investigation in accordance with department procedures and state law, officials said, and the county Coroner’s Office will forward its findings as required by law.
