Two boats found ablaze in suspicious North Sacramento fire
Two boats were found burning behind a chain-link fence Sunday night in North Sacramento.
The boats were being stored on private property in the 2400 block of Selma Street, along with more than a dozen other old cars and vessels, said Cpt. Dave Lauchner of the Sacramento Fire Department. Each was estimated to be about 20 feet long and appeared well-worn, with one bearing a 2005 registry tag.
“It was sort of like a boneyard for boats – it wasn’t nice, elegant boats,” Lauchner said. “The boats had been stored there for a while and there was no obvious sign of why the fire should have been started in that area.”
Firefighters had to cut through the fence to reach the burning boats, Lauchner said. The fire is being investigated as suspicious.
