Sacramento police, firefighters recover body from American River

No foul play is suspected in the death of a woman whose body was recovered in the American River near the Howe Avenue Bridge, said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Shaun Hampton.

“There is nothing suspicious,” said Hampton, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, “and there are no obvious signs of trauma. The coroner has taken custody of the body and will determine ID and cause of death.”

If that examination yields evidence of foul play, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department will lead the investigation. First responders from the Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Fire Department, Sacramento Police all received calls Saturday afternoon to assist in recovering the woman’s body.
