UPDATE: Coroner’s Office identifies man shot to death outside North Laguna home
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot to death Sunday night at a North Laguna home as Ricardo Minjares, 42.
Sacramento police say Minjares might have interrupted someone tampering with property.
Police responding to a call from the victim’s family at about 10 p.m. found him dead in the backyard of a home on the 7800 block of Calzada Way. Residents there told police they heard shots fired and found Minjares wounded outside.
Homicide investigators say they believe Minjares, investigating suspicious noise, interrupted a property crime in progress, prompting an intruder to shoot through a fence and fatally wound Minjares as he stood in the backyard.
Police said that possible multiple suspects then fled in a vehicle.
Investigators are trying to determine what was being tampered with outside the home.
