Man with $6 million bail convicted in child sex assault case involving family member

A man held in Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $6 million bail following his arrest in October has been convicted of 13 counts involving child sexual assault.

A Sacramento County jury on Friday found 47-year-old Andy Karl Kelly guilty of charges including committing an act of oral copulation or penetration on a child 10 years old or younger, intercourse with a child 10 years old or younger, and lewd or lascivious acts with a child younger than 14, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release.

In 2015 and 2016, Kelly molested a young family member. DNA evidence was recovered and corroborated the child’s description of what happened to her, the news release said.

Kelly faces a maximum potential sentence of 129 years to life in prison. He is to be sentenced May 18 by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Geoffrey A. Goodman.
