Update: Man dies in Rancho Cordova shooting

A man shot Saturday afternoon near the front of a Rancho Cordova apartment complex has died, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The department received calls starting at 2:43 p.m. about several gunshots in the 9800 block of Lincoln Village Way, said Sgt. Lisa Bowman, sheriff’s spokeswoman. Deputies found that a man in his late teens or early 20s had been shot.

Witnesses said they saw the victim talking to someone inside a light-colored sedan before the shooting, Bowman said. The sedan left before deputies arrived.

The shooting victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name had not been released by Saturday evening.
