Several dogs die in early South Oak Park structure fire

An early-morning structure fire near South Oak Park was extinguished Tuesday after claiming the lives of several dogs, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

The fire started in a residential yard on the 4900 block of Mascot Avenue at around 6 a.m. and spread to several cars, car canopies and an outbuilding, according to Fire Department spokesman Keith Wade.

“The firefighters kept it to the yard, but it was scorching the house and impinging on the home,” Wade said.

No homes were burned in the fire and no one was injured, Wade said, though several dogs died while inside a vehicle in the yard.
