A train carrying lumber and gas oil, among other items, derailed Friday afternoon in Sacramento County southwest of the J.R. Davis Railyard between Antelope and Roseville, according to the Roseville Fire Department and the track’s operator, Union Pacific.

Three cars were on their side while two cars off the rails remained upright after the incident, which happened around 12:15 p.m., according to UP officials. There was no immediate threat surrounding homes and businesses, fire officials said.

Three of the cars were carrying liquid petroleum gas, known as LPG, while the other derailed cars were carrying lumber, according to Kristen South, a spokeswoman for UP. None of the tankers were leaking, and no one was hurt, South said. The cause for the derailment is under investigation.

As a precaution, hazmat crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department were also on-site, which is near the Home Depot on Antelope and Roseville roads, as officials worked to clear the tracks. Metro Fire spokesman Capt. Chris Vestal said crews set up air-monitoring devices as a precaution.

“As part of the up-righting process, the (butane) cars will be rendered safe before being placed back onto the tracks and moved to another location,” he said. “This process is not expected to cause any impact to the surrounding communities.”

Officials at the Federal Railroad Administration, which oversees freight train safety in the U.S., said late Friday they were monitoring the incident.
