Construction road crew worker hit by vehicle near Lake Tahoe
A member of a road construction crew was hurt when struck by a hit-and-run vehicle Monday near Lake Tahoe.
Ismael Mayorga-Torres, an employee of Vali Cooper & Associates, was working traffic control for a road construction project on Highway 89 between Tahoe City and Sugar Pine Point State Park about 2:35 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a vehicle.
Traffic was heavy at the time the car struck Mayorga-Torres, 51, of Sparks, Nev., at a speed of between 15 and 25 mph. Mayorga-Torres was walking along the edge of the road, directly across the road from Obexer’s General Store.
Mayorga-Torres was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with major injuries, according to the report.
Authorities do not have a description of the vehicle or identifying characteristics of the driver. The vehicle was traveling southbound at approximately 15 to 25 mph.
The CHP is investigating the incident and urges anyone with information to contact the Truckee CHP Office at 530-582-7570.
