Trash fire sends up plume of smoke in southeastern Sacramento

A burning pile of garbage at a solid-waste transfer station near Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento sent up a thick, dark plume of smoke Friday evening, alarming residents but posing no threat to surrounding structures, fire officials said.

“Large amount of black smoke in the area, no structures threatened, no injuries,” the Sacramento Fire Department said on Twitter. Crews from the Sacramento Fire Department and the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District are working to extinguish it.
