Coroner identifies 2 men in Sacramento south-area cafe killing

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified both men killed early Friday in a south Sacramento shooting.

Xang Thao, 32, and Paul Xiong, 26, died shortly after the 1:15 a.m. shooting outside Vientiane Cafe in the 7900 block of Florin Road.

Witnesses told deputies that a fight started in the cafe between two groups, spilling into the parking lot area, where several gunshots were fired, said Deputy Tony Turnbull, a spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Two other men were hurt in the violence and taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, Turnbull said. Detectives are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
