Elk Grove man killed in I-5 big rig crash identified
The name of the man killed when his pickup was slammed into by an out-of-control big rig Thursday morning on Interstate 5 has been released.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified him as Elijah Jackson, 45, of Elk Grove.
The crash on the rainy freeway occurred about 6 a.m. and closed northbound lanes at Fruitridge Road and Seamas Avenue. All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 reopened Thursday evening.
The double-trailer Federal Express truck was traveling on southbound I-5 in heavy rain when the driver lost control of her rig, hit the center retaining wall and crossed over into the northbound lanes.
The big rig struck a pickup driven by Jackson that was northbound. The driver of the FedEx truck, which was empty, was not injured.
Traffic backed up for miles during Thursday’s morning commute.
