Postal inspectors investigate daytime vandalism at Orangevale post office

Postal inspectors are investigating a case of midday vandalism at the Orangevale post office.

Jeff Fitch, an inspector with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, said windows of the post office, at 6261 Hazel Ave., were broken about noon Tuesday. Employees and customers were in the building, but no one was injured. Fitch said investigators are trying to determine how the windows were broken.

He stressed that damaging a post office building is a federal offense.

Because the damage occurred during the middle of the day, officials were able to immediately contact a glass company to replace the windows, Fitch said.

Staff members at the post office said post office boxes in the building were not damaged.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Postal Inspection Service’s 24-hour line at 877-876-2455.
