Two die in Highway 16 head-on crash in Sloughhouse
Two people were killed in a head-on collision Tuesday night on the Jackson Highway.
The California Highway Patrol said that the driver of a Nissan, identified by the coroner as Jason Keating, 47, of Sloughhouse, died at the scene of the crash just east of Kiefer Boulevard around 11 p.m.
A 70-year-old woman from Sacramento, who is still unidentified, died of injuries at UC Davis Medical Center.
Witnesses told CHP officers that Keating was traveling eastbound on the Jackson Highway at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Keating veered to the left toward oncoming westbound traffic.
During that maneuver, he sideswiped a Volkswagen, causing that car to overturn. Keating continued down the road and crashed head-on into the car of the Sacramento woman.
A passenger in the Volkswagen suffered a minor injury.
