California Fire officials report a grass fire south of Lincoln near the Thunder Valley Casino was 80 percent contained Wednesday, May 18, 2016, after consuming 169 acres and damaging a commercial plumbing supply company facility. Fire crews from throughout Placer County as well as Sacramento County responded Tuesday to the area of Athens Avenue and Industrial Boulevard. Capt. Bryan Carter, a spokesman for California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said the fire was spotted by crews at a Cal Fire station on Athens Avenue near the casino. He said the fire spread to the southeast, toward Cincinnati Avenue and Sunset Boulevard. Fire officials said high temperatures and winds and dry brush contributed to the fire’s spread.
