A husband was sent to jail for beating a man to death who tried to rape his wife

Ask any husband if he would beat a man who tried to rape his wife, and he would probably say yes.

A 61-year-old New York man did just that, and he ended up beating the attempted rapist to death with a tire iron, according to police. Now he’s in jail and facing a charge of manslaughter, according to the New York Post.

Mamadou Diallo, a Guinea native, received a call from his wife Monday night, when she briefly broke free from her attacker and started screaming for help into the phone.

The woman’s relative said she opened the door to her apartment thinking it was one of her children knocking. Instead, 43-year-old Earl Nash barged into the apartment and started to punch her and rip off her clothes.

“I don’t want money, I’m going to rape you,” the woman said Nash told her.

Diallo was returning home from work when he got the call from his wife. He took the elevator up to the sixth floor, where Nash was waiting to come down to the lobby, and Diallo’s wife identified Nash as her attacker.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Diallo beating the man’s head in with a tire iron until Nash’s skull fractured. Nash was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Nash has previous arrests for assault, robbery and arson.

Diallo’s neighbors and family members defended him when talking to the New York Post.

“I saw him right after it happened,” one neighbor said. “He saw his wife with the blood and screaming for his help and he did the right thing.”

Diallo was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

“He threatened my wife,” Diallo said repeatedly, as he was led out a police station in handcuffs on Tuesday.
