Another Republican endorses Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate

Former Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, once chairman of the Armed Services Committee, on Thursday became the latest Republican to endorse Orange County Rep. Loretta Sanchez’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

Sanchez, in an uphill slog against fellow Democrat Kamala Harris, has increasingly leaned on Republicans for support in the unusual fall runoff.

Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan and conservative syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt also are behind Sanchez, contending she would be a better fit for disaffected Republicans who want someone that will listen, if not always agree with their positions on foreign affairs and federal budgeting.

In a statement, McKeon said he’s worked closely with Sanchez and knows her ability to put partisanship aside and work with Democrats and Republicans.

“She has traveled all over the world to meet with our military leaders and has earned the respect of her colleagues and that of foreign leaders,” he said.

“Loretta comes from a military family and she understands the challenges and sacrifices that they go through. Her military knowledge and committee experience is needed in the Senate and that’s why I encourage my fellow Californians to join me in supporting Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senator.”
