Fire along parkway extinguished by air, water, boots on the ground

Another small grass fire along American River Parkway burned into treetops before it was extinguished Monday morning by crews on the ground, a helicopter water drop and water sprayed from a boat.

The blaze was reported about 9 a.m. about a quarter of a mile east of the archery range at Discovery Park. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The fire began in brush and spread into the canopy of the trees. A large homeless camp was found burned nearby.

The half-acre fire was subdued by a Sacramento Fire Department boat spraying water from the river and a Sacramento Metro helicopter dropping river water from above.
