Sacramento showers today with rain in forecast for Thursday, Friday
The National Weather Service predicts light precipitation on Wednesday in the Sacramento region -- before a more substantial moisture plume arrives with additional precipitation.
The atmospheric plume will be quite narrow, according to forecasters. The narrowness of the system will mean the difference between communities getting rain and others staying dry on Thursday.
Computer models of the oncoming weather system are showing rain falling to the north of Interstate 80. The forecast calls for between a quarter- and a half-inch of rain for Sacramento on Thursday.
The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region by the NWS:
Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly before 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 63. South southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Wednesday night: A slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a chance of rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. South southeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday: Rain likely, mainly between 10am and 4pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday night: Rain, mainly after 4am. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 52. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Friday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 60. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Friday night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44.
Saturday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62.
