Dream wins its inaugural home tennis match
California dominated in both of Anabel Medina Garrigues’ sets and went on to beat the Springfield Lasers 23-18 in overtime on Monday night at Sunrise Mall in the Dream’s inaugural home match.
Garrigues won 5-2 in women’s doubles (with Jarka Gajdosova) and in mixed doubles (with Neal Skupski) to give the Dream a commanding 15-8 lead at intermission.
California led 22-18 after regulation, but because Springfield won the last set, men’s doubles, the match went into overtime. Skupski and Tennys Sandgren ended matters by winning the next game.
The Dream (1-1) will play the Philadelphia Freedoms (1-1) on Tuesday night at 7:30 at Sunrise Mall.
