High school football playoffs roundup: Cosumnes Oaks outlasts Davis
Austin Greer accounted for four touchdowns, and Cosumnes Oaks held on late to defeat Davis 28-25 on Friday night in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoff opener in Yolo County.
Greer has played his best games down the stretch as the Wolfpack secured their sixth successive playoff berth in beating a Blue Devils team in the postseason for just the third time since 1995. John Lagattuta had a 91-yard touchdown run for Davis.
Sheldon 37, Napa 28 in Napa – Graylon Lindsey rushed for three touchdowns, Ravontae Holt returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown, and Austyn Hurts scored on a 58-yard run off a double handoff to power the Huskies past the Indians in D-I for their first playoff win since 2009.
Folsom 78, Kennedy 6 – The Bulldogs led 9-0 before the offense hit the field on a touchdown and a safety in the D-I rout. Folsom seeks a section five-peat.
Sacramento 54, Stagg 14 in Stockton – Tariq Hollandsworth accounted for four touchdowns and Derek Shelton two to lead the Dragons in D-II.
Sacramento played in Stockton as its home field was deemed unplayable.
Grant 42, Granite Bay 17 in Del Paso Heights – Tyree Marcelle rushed 29 times for 261 yards and four touchdowns as the Pacers rolled in D-II to avenge last season’s playoff setback.
Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of popular Grant player JJ Clavo. There will be a memorial in the Grant gym at 2 p.m. Sunday.
