Round 7b: 49ers use final pick on receiver Richie James
With their final pick of the draft, the 49ers selected Richie James, a wide receiver from Middle Tennessee State.
Who is he? James finished his career in first place in receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns at Middle Tennessee State. He's 5-10, 183 pounds and he ran his 40-yard dash at the combine in 4.48 seconds. His 2017 season was cut short in October due to a broken collarbone, but he still managed 31 receptions, 290 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
How does he fit? James' size and quickness may suggest he's a slot receiver, but Kyle Shanahan said he'll probably start out at the X position, which is where Marquise Goodwin plays.
