49ers awarded four compensatory draft picks
The 49ers on Friday were awarded four compensatory picks in the upcoming NFL draft, giving San Francisco a league-high 12 total selections. Compensatory picks are awarded if a team loses more high-value free agents than they sign in the previous year. Three teams were given the maximum four compensatory picks: the 49ers, Cowboys and Patriots.
Here’s the the 49ers’ draft haul for the next two years.
2016
1. Round 1 – own pick, No. 7 overall

3. Round 3 – own pick, No. 68
4. Round 4 – own pick, No. 105
5. Round 4 – compensatory pick (CB Chris Culliver, No. 133)
6. Round 5 – from San Diego (2015 draft-day trade, No. 142)
7. Round 5 – own pick, No. 145
8. Round 5 – compensatory pick (CB Perrish Cox, No. 174)
9. Round 6 – from Cowboys (2015 draft-day trade, No. 178)
10. Round 6 – from Broncos (TE Vernon Davis trade, No. 207)
11. Round 6 – compensatory pick (RB Frank Gore, No. 211)
12. Round 6 – compensatory pick (OLB Dan Skuta, No. 213)
2017
1. Round 1 – own pick
2. Round 2 – own pick
3. Round 3 – own pick
4. Round 4 – own pick
5. Round 5 – own pick
6. Round 5 – Washington pick acquired in trade for TE Derek Carrier
7. Round 6 – own pick
8. Round 6 – pick from Denver (TE Vernon Davis trade).
9. Round 7 – Cleveland’s pick acquired in 2015 trade for Andy Lee.
Note – The 49ers must send their own seventh-round pick in 2017 to Washington because Carrier did not play 40 percent of the snaps in 2015.
