River Cats lose to Gomez, Isotopes
Albuquerque starter Leuris Gomez struck out eight and walked none in four innings as the Isotopes defeated the River Cats 3-1 on Saturday night at Raley Field.
Matt McBride gave Albuquerque all the runs it would need with a two-run single in the third inning. River Cats starter Clayton Blackburn had retired the first two batters in the inning.
The River Cats trimmed their deficit to 2-1 in the fourth. With runners on first and second and no outs, Gomez struck out Hunter Pence on a wild pitch. After Travis Ishikawa struck out, Gomez threw another wild pitch, allowing Brett Jackson to score.
Albuquerque made it 3-1 in the eighth on an RBI single by Ryan Casteel.
Sacramento threatened in the seventh and eighth innings but couldn’t capitalize.
