River Cats get swept by Memphis
The Memphis Redbirds swept a four-game series from the River Cats, holding on for a 5-4 win Sunday at Raley Field.
Sacramento trailed 5-0 after five innings before coming back. The River Cats scored once in the seventh on Carlos Triunfel’s sacrifice fly. In the eighth, Juan Ciriaco led off with a single, and Juan Perez reached on an error by shortstop Matt Williams on a forceout attempt at second base. Brett Jackson then hit his third homer of the season, a drive to right-center, that drove Memphis starter Zach Petrick out of the game.
Tyler Waldron replaced Petrick and worked out of trouble. Darren Ford greeted Waldron with a single but was caught trying to steal second. After Adam Duvall singled and Hector Sanchez flied out, Jarrett Parker reached on a fielding error by second baseman Jacob Wilson. But Triunfel grounded out to end the inning.
Waldron pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
River Cats starter Ty Blach gave up eight hits and five runs, four earned, in six innings.
Memphis did most of its damage against Blach in the second inning, scoring four runs on four singles, a walk and a hit batsman.
