River Cats swept by Iowa Cubs in twinbill

The River Cats endured a rough Saturday night in Des Moines, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Iowa Cubs.

Iowa prevailed in the opener 5-1, as Ty Blach allowed five runs, including four in the first inning.

Blach (11-11) allowed nine hits, including a solo home run, and three walks.

Nick Noonan had two hits and drove in Sacramento’s lone run in the seventh inning.

The second game was closer, and longer, but the result was the same, as Iowa won 2-1 in the bottom of the 12th inning when Christian Villanueva’s single to left drove in the winning run.

The River Cats’ run came on Jarrett Parker’s home run to right field in the seventh.

The Cats’ Brett Bochy (6-1) took the loss. Iowa reliever Ryan Buchter (2-0) got the win.
